3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari – Volcanoes National Park Experience

Overview

This 3-day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari takes you to Volcanoes National Park, located in Rwanda’s Northern Province. The park is part of the Virunga region and is home to five of the eight magnificent volcanoes — Muhabura, Karisimbi, Sabinyo, Bisoke, and Gahinga.

Covered by lush rainforest, the park shelters the world’s rare mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, offering a life-changing encounter with these gentle giants. Watching them in their natural habitat is an emotional and unforgettable experience.

Your Rwanda gorilla permit costs $1500 USD, and the adventure includes a cultural visit to the Gorilla Guardians Village (Iby’Iwacu) for an authentic Rwandese experience.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick Up and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival in Rwanda — either at Kigali International Airport or your hotel — our professional driver-guide from Muganzi Safaris will warmly welcome you.
Before heading to the park, enjoy a short Kigali City Tour, featuring the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, and historical landmarks.

After lunch en route, drive through scenic landscapes and rolling hills on your 2–3 hour journey to Volcanoes National Park, the home of the mountain gorillas.
Check in at your chosen lodge and relax as you prepare for the next day’s adventure.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early for breakfast, then head to the park headquarters for a pre-trekking briefing. Rangers will explain the trekking rules and assign groups based on fitness levels and gorilla family availability.

Afterward, begin your gorilla trekking adventure through the dense rainforest. Trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, depending on gorilla movement. Once you encounter them, you’ll spend one magical hour observing their behavior, taking photos, and enjoying the rare connection with these majestic creatures.

Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay — surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature.
