Detailed 3-Day Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Scenic Journey into the Misty Highlands

Your adventure begins with a convenient pickup from either Kigali, Rwanda, or Kampala/Entebbe, Uganda.

  • From Kigali: We start with a poignant and educational Kigali City Tour, including a visit to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial. This powerful site offers insight into Rwanda’s history and remarkable resilience. After lunch, we journey towards Uganda, crossing at the Cyanika border. The drive is spectacular, featuring a stopover at the beautiful Twin Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. As we continue, the majestic Virunga volcanoes—Sabinyo, Muhabura, and Gahinga—come into view, providing a stunning backdrop for photographs. We arrive at our lodge on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the evening.

  • From Kampala/Entebbe: Departing at 8:00 AM, we travel westwards, making a classic stop at the Uganda Equator line for photos and souvenirs. We enjoy a delicious lunch in Mbarara, known as the “Land of Milk and Honey,” before continuing through rolling hills to the lush rainforest of Bwindi.

  • Accommodation: Overnight at the comfortable Rushaga Gorilla Camp (Midrange) or indulge in the exquisite luxury of Chameleon Hill Lodge or Nkuringo Bwindi Lodge.

Day 2: The Ultimate Gorilla Encounter – A Full Day in the Forest

This is the day you’ve been waiting for! After an early and hearty breakfast, your guide will drive you to the Rushaga sector park headquarters.

Here, you will receive a comprehensive briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers. They will explain the “dos and don’ts” of being in close proximity to the gorillas to ensure both your safety and the well-being of these precious primates.

Then, the trek begins! Led by an expert ranger guide, you will hike into the dense, mystical jungle. The Gorilla Habituation Experience is a true wilderness adventure and can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours of hiking through steep and challenging terrain. The effort is infinitely rewarded the moment you locate the gorilla family.

You will then be granted four full hours to observe them. Watch in awe as the massive silverback leads his family, playful juveniles tumble in the foliage, and mothers tenderly care for their young. This extended time allows for incredible photography and a deep, meaningful connection with our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. After this life-altering experience, you will trek back to the lodge to relax and reflect.

  • Accommodation: Another night at your chosen lodge—Rushaga Gorilla Camp, Chameleon Hill Lodge, or Nkuringo Bwindi Lodge.

Day 3: Farewell to the Misty Mountains

After a leisurely breakfast, savor the final views of the mist-covered forest. We then embark on our return journey to either Kigali or Kampala/Entebbe. For those with flights, we will ensure a timely drop-off at the airport, marking the end of your unforgettable safari with Muganzi Safaris.
